What is it about?

The whole game is based on one single mechanic: What if the player were able to cut, slice and dice their environment?

While this premise sounds fun, the challenge was to build the slicing system and a way to make a game out of it.

A puzzle game felt like a natural fit!

This game, assets and programming were entirely made by me with Unreal, Maya and Photoshop!

Creating the project

Programming Blueprint
  • Prototype the core mechanic (slicing meshes at runtime) in the engine (UE4), and make sure it is technically possible.

  • Assess any and all technical problems that may arise and that may impede gameplay.

  • Spot possible ajustements to the gameplay by prototyping.

  • Make sure the system is expandable and easily modifiable.

Game design
  • Brainstorm and list possible fun mechanics and puzzle ideas.

  • Verify feasability in blueprint through prototyping.

  • Evaluate the gameplay limitations and try to mitigate/go around them.

  • Create finalized versions to use in a short level.

Game Design

Level design and Level art
  • Model entire rooms in Maya and constantly import/reimport to the engine in order to quickly iterate on the level design while creating original shapes.

  • Heavy uses of trim sheets and single texture for the entire environment, all built from a small library of photos.

  • Keep the polycount for assets and environment low as to keep the modeling job quick and efficient.

  • Creating kits to add visual details to the environment.

As this is a personal project, it was important to keep the scope of the project on a human scale, while also having fun creating it! Every asset was build with this limitation in mind
